Here in Barkway, Barley, Reed and Buckland we are delighted to welcome you and your child to consider a christening service at any of our churches. In that service your child will be baptised with water and he or she begins a great journey of faith. It is also a special day of celebration and thanksgiving for your family and friends.
You can find out more about christenings and baptism on the Church of England webpage https://churchofenglandchristenings.org/
or contact The Revd Ruth Pyke, the Rector of Barkway, Barley,Reed and Buckland to make an enquiry.
We can discuss the possibility of a marriage service where if you wish to be married in one of our churches, one or both of the couple needs to be resident in the parish, on the church’s electoral roll or a regular worshipper here. The rules have recently been relaxed by the Church of England so that couples who can show links to a particular church (e.g. their parents’ wedding took place there or have lived in the parish during the lifetime of bride/groom) now also have a right to be married there.
There may be a possibility of obtaining a special licence, if there is a particular connection with the parish, and you do not fulfil one of the other requirements, but this cannot be guaranteed.one or more of you has been previously divorced once, but the outcome will depend on individual circumstances.
We also offer a service of thanksgiving following a civil marriage.
These are normally arranged through a funeral director, but I am happy to talk to you informally at any point.
If you have a special anniversary you would like to celebrate by holding a thanksgiving service in church, we would be happy to discuss plans with you.
For all the above, please contact The Revd Ruth Pyke or one of the Church Wardens, whose details you will find by clicking the people tab at the top of the screen.
