Life Events
Baptisms (Christenings)
All people, adults or children, living in the benefice have a right to be baptised in their parish church. The promises made in the baptism service are strong commitments. Adults make these for themselves, but, in the case of a child, parents and godparents make them on the child’s behalf.
Thanksgiving Service
If you are unsure about whether you are able to make these promises in good conscience, but still wish to celebrate your child’s birth in some way, we are able to offer a service of thanksgiving. This will include prayers for your child and for those involved in caring for him or her, giving thanks to God for her/him, and an opportunity to commit yourself to caring for your child.
Marriage
If you wish to be married in one of our churches, one or both of the couple needs to be resident in the parish, on the church’s electoral roll or a regular worshipper here. There may be a possibility of obtaining a special licence, if there is a particular connection with the parish, and you do not fulfil one of the other requirements, but this cannot be guaranteed.
We can discuss the possibility of a marriage service where one or more of you has been previously divorced once, but the outcome will depend on individual circumstances.
We also offer a service of thanksgiving following a civil marriage.
Funerals
These are normally arranged through a funeral director, but I am happy to talk to you informally at any point.
Anniversaries
If you have a special anniversary you would like to celebrate by holding a thanksgiving service in church, we would be happy to discuss plans with you.
For all the above, please contact the Priest-in-Charge.
