Welcome to our website.
We are a small rural benefice in North East Hertfordshire, covering an area that includes Barkway, Barley, Reed, Buckland, Chipping, Nuthampstead and Newsells. Our nearest towns are Royston and Buntingford, but Cambridge is also within easy reach.
Our active churches are in Barkway, Barley and Reed (Please click on the service times tab at the top of the page to find out the times of our services); there is a redundant church is Buckland, where occasional services are held.
As Christians, we seek to worship God and live out our faith in our communities and beyond, in word and action, through loving God and loving our neighbour.
We would very much like to welcome you to join us for worship or for any other activities in the benefice.
Important update regarding the Vacancy
We have been in a vacancy since last October, so we are very pleased to announce that the Queen has approved the appointment of the Reverend Ruth Pyke to the Rectory of Barkway, Reed and Buckland with Barley. Ruth is currently the Children’s Work Adviser for the Diocese. Her official institution will take place in Barley Church at 7.30pm on Monday 5th October. Meanwhile, please remember in your prayers Ruth, her family, the colleagues she works with and the people she serves in the Diocese.
Ruth is married to The Reverend Canon Richard Pyke, the Team Rector of the Bishop’s Hatfield Team, they have 4 grown up children, one granddaughter and another grandchild due imminently. Before becoming the Children’s Work Adviser, she was Priest in Charge in the parish of Caddington, and served in curacies in Watford and in St Albans. Ruth also taught music and RE in primary schools in Hertfordshire before ordination.
Ruth writes,” I am very excited by the opportunity to come and live and work amongst you. Dates for moving to the Rectory and beginning work have still to be finalised and we will keep you all informed as these dates become firm. I would welcome your prayers for me as I prepare to leave my current post and I will pray for you as we look towards the future together.”
